The Character
Name: Callie Cuttlefish
Canon: Splatoon Series
Canon Point: End of Splatoon 2
Age: 19
History: Enter an inkorrigible punster.
Personality: A long-time personality of the popular squid sensation the Squid Sisters, Callie is an energetic, fun-loving, and bold Inkling. Her earnest and straightforward personality makes her easily the most amicable of the two, and she enjoys the attention and excitement being in the spotlight affords. She adores her fans, and genuinely thinks highly of most people and wants to enjoy life. Her enthusiasm for everything shows itself in her conversations with her cousin, Marie, and presents her thoughts, observations, and demands with her full enthusiasm. This is especially evident during their televised segments, she’s frequently commenting on the sights, smells of food, or pleading at Marie to provide a quick pun.
When Callie is passionate about something, she throws herself full into it. Her grandfather, Captain Cuttlefish, leads a covert paramilitary force the Squidbeak Splatoon, with Callie serving as his Agent 1 and Marie serving as Agent 2. She frequently takes point in these assignments, charging ahead and smashing enemies with explosive ordinance while Marie snipes at targets from afar. While usually the brawn to Marie’s brains, Callie can also be far cleverer that she appears, as well, making astute observations and sizing up key points of the battlefield with ease. She is also passionate for people, wanting to provide them with entertainment or a compassionate ear.
Yet while she is often passionate and energetic, Callie suffers from a tendency to not think her actions through. Moment-to-moment, she’s clever and insightful, but she can have trouble with keeping her thoughts and behaviors in check. While great to get things started, she often needs to rely on the shrewd cleverness of Marie to make sure that things go off well and to address any potential problems that Callie overlooks. Her impulsions can also land her into hot water, where she will say or do something that she shouldn’t. Finally, she tends to like the idea of something more than being able to do it, stating an interest to drive a forklift when she hasn’t learned how to drive a bike, expressing a desire to drive a car when she failed her driver’s license, and a desire to swim when doing so would immediately dissolve her inky body in the attempt.
Yet while she was once a Squid Sister, after the events of their last Splatfest, an in-universe event where squids compete against each other as a way to celebrate and challenge one another on the field of battle, Callie and Marie went their separate ways. While Callie embraced the spotlight, her time in the public’s eye was starting to get to her, pushing her further and further away from a star being fun. In what was no doubt an exciting possibility, Callie took a gig to perform for the Octarians, a villainous organization of violent militaristic octopi, and she was then abducted and brainwashed. While she retained many of her core qualities -- a love of decorating, performing, and blowing things up – her mind took to a considerably antagonistic view of squids and squid kids. Fortunately she was prevented from leading an invasion force with the help of Marie and her newly acquired Inkling ally, Agent 4.
Since, she has adopted a more adult view of who she was as an idol. She recognizes the importance of committing to her responsibilities, but has renewed her relationship with her cousin. While her time in the spotlight might be passing, her passion for life and the people within it cannot be extinguished. She will embrace the new direction her life would go, even if it is a backwater place like Concord.
Inventory: A pink beanie, her outfit, which was a pair of large earrings in the shape of squid rings, a pink sweater, a white tunic tee, hot pants, and a pair of wedge shoes with purple socks. She has a purse which is carrying her squid cell phone, some candy, 27 gold coins, two vouchers for drinks at Crusty Sean’s Crust Bucket and one free Galactic Seanwhich, a flyer for Grizzco Industries, a photo op of herself, Marie, Agent 3 and Agent 4, and a note to remind herself to talk to gramps when she has the time.
